Brenthurst, the 8-5 favorite in the fifth race, fell heavily in early stretch, unseating jockey Martin Pedroza who was able to scramble to safety.

Brenthurst was racing at the back of the field along the rail at the time of the incident and fortunately did not have any horses directly behind him at the time of the incident.

Mensa Heat ($9.40) won the $20,000 claimer over 5 1-2 furlongs by 3 1-4 lengths over 14-1 Margarita Shot.

Brenthurst, a 5-year-old gelding who won 2 of 18 starts, was euthanized as a result of a fetlock injury to his left foreleg. Pedroza went to first aid after the race, but was cleared to ride, according to track stewards. His next mount is Lease of Life in the sixth.

Brenthurst was claimed in a three-way shake by trainer Danny Velasquez. Lordgivemealift, who finished eighth, was claimed in a two-way shake by Dan Hendricks.
