Santa Anita: Rockin Heather wins juvenile dash

The gamble was landed on the juvenile Rockin Heather in Wednesday's second race. Listed at 30-1 on the morning-line, Rockin Heather was knocked down to 10-1 and won the two-furlong dash by three-quarters of a length over Leslie Rules, the 6-5 favorite.

Ridden by Silvio Amador, Rockin Heather ($22.40) was timed in 21.28 seconds. Co-owned by Brian Kahn and trainer Rafael DeLeon, Rockin Heather had worked regularly since early February at Hollywood Park and even went three furlongs on March 29. The filly is by In Excess and was bred by Kahn.

Wednesday's second race was the first juvenile race of the year in Southern California. Two more are scheduled for Thursday, with additional races tenatively scheduled for next week. When the racing shifts to Hollywood Park on April 21, the 2-year-old races will be extended to a more conventional 4 1-2 furlongs.
