Santa Anita: Robbins ends drought

Email

Trainer Jay Robbins, best known for guiding Tiznow to consecutive wins in the Breeders' Cup Classic in 2000 and 2001, ended an eight-race losing streak when Moon Stone Madness ($8.20) won Thursday's sixth race for $10,000 claimers.

Ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, Moon Stone Madness closed from off the pace to win by a half-length over 8-1 Appealing Afare. Havens Lake, the 6-5 favorite, could only finish fourth in the field of 10 after a wide rally.

Moon Stone Madness gave Valenzuela his second winner of the day. Moon Stone Madness was only Robbins' seventh starter of the Santa Anita meeting. His last win came in November with Moon Stonne Madness at Hollywood Park.

Kiss My Swiss, who finished eighth, was claimed by trainer Jack Carava for La Canada Stables.
