Santa Anita: O'Neill claims winner

Email

Trainer Doug O'Neill claimed the heavy favorite Separate Forest in Friday's third race, the first leg of a pick six that drew a pool of $135,196.

Separate Forest ($3.40) made her first start for a claiming price - $25,000 - on Wednesday, after winning once in four starts last year. She beat maidens in her debut at Santa Rosa by 11 lengths last August, but had been third, fifth and seventh in subsequent starts, while always well backed.

Separate Forest raced for trainer Richard Mandella and breeder Gerald Ford until Friday's race, when she led throughout to win the six-furlong race by 2 1-4 lengths All the Love. Separate Forest ran six furlongs in 1:08.25.

O'Neill had one of three claims submitted for Separate Forest.
