Santa Anita: O'Callaghan claims Nathaniel

Nathaniel, who finished third in Saturday's first race, was claimed by trainer Carl O'Callaghan for $12,500. O'Callaghan is best known as the trainer of Kinsale King, the winner of the $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen last month.

The first race was won by Hasty Trend, who ran down pacesetter Yukon Bull in the final furlong. Hasty Trend ($8.80) ran six furlongs in 1:08.86, finishing 3 1-4 lengths in front of Warring Heart. Yukon Bull faded from contention in the final furlong after setting a quick pace of 21.64 and 44.85 seconds.
