Santa Anita: Not a fine ride from Solis

Email

Jockey Alex Solis would like to have his ride aboard Tashzara back in Sunday's sixth race.

Riding the 4-5 favorite, Tashzara was closing quickly when the field of 3-year-old maiden fillies reached the quarter-pole on the turf course. Tashzara was making up so much ground that Solis chose to guide the filly to the outside of pacesetter S C Song Girl and in doing so collided with Tiz Misty, who was not a threat to the leaders at the time.

The stewards conducted an inquiry but said the incident did not change the order of finish

Tashzara could only finish third, behind Triple Cream and S C Song Girl. Triple Cream was making her first start on turf for owner Bobby Flay (the well-known chef) and trainer David Hofmans. She ran a mile on turf in 1:36.58.

A few minutes before the race, the 11-1 outsider Twistnthenightaway was scratched after being injured in the gate, according to track stewards.
