Santa Anita: Mythical Power rallies

Mythical Power ($5) rallied from off the pace to win an optional claimer over seven furlongs in Thursday's fourth race, ending a five-race losing streak, all in graded stakes.

Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, his second winner of the day, Mythical Power, 5, finished 1 3-4 lengths in front of stablemate Red Door Drive in the field of six. Noble Court finished third. Mythical Power was fourth on the backstretch, moved into congention with a three-wide rally in early stretch and took the lead past the eighth pole. Mythical Power ran seven furlongs in 1:20.12, just missing Twirling Candy's month-old track record of 1:19.70.

Owned by Peachtree Stable, Mythical Power has won 4 of 15 starts. He has won two Grade 3 stakes at Lone Star Park - the Lone Star Derby in 2009 and the Texas Mile last April. Thursday's race was Mythical Power's first start since a last-place finish in a field of seven in the Grade 2 Kelso Handicap at Belmont Park in October.

Mythical Power is one of two prominent runners from 2010 starting for trainer Bob Baffert on Thursday. In the seventh race, Game On Dude, unraced since finishing fourth in the Belmont Stakes last June, runs in an optional claimer over 1 1-16 miles.
