Santa Anita: Lucky trip for 'Red Alert'

Email

The misfortune of Booyah helped Red Alert Day win Friday's fifth race as the 3-2 favorite.

Booyah was near the lead in the $28,000 to $32,000 claimer over 1 1-8 miles on turf when jockey David Flores began to pull up the 7-year-old horse. Red Alert Day, ridden by Joel Rosario, was just behind the leaders, seeking racing room, when Booyah began to drop back from the leaders. Red Alert Day emerged between horses, took the lead near the eighth pole and won by 1 1-4 lengths over Hughesy.

No Stadium, who finished fourth, was claimed for $32,000 by Jerry Fanning, the trainer of Booyah.

The stewards reported that one of Booyah's hind legs were struck by a trailing horse, Victorian Prince. Booyah was vanned off.
