Santa Anita: Kate rallies from last

Kate's Event rallied from last in a field of nine to win a maiden race for statebreds over six furlongs in Monday's fourth race.

Kate's Event ($4.60) closed along the rail under jockey Joel Rosario to win by 1 1-2 lengtths over 12-1 Fleet Continental. The winner ran six furlongs in 1:09.

The newly-installed sand-and-clay track has played quick since Sunday's opening day, with many winners racing near the front. Kate's Event's win proved that a horse can rally from off the pace.

He was helped by a quick early pace of 21.98 and 44.74 seconds set by 10-1 Crispy Corey. Kate's Event is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer. The colt was fourth in his debut at Hollywodo Park on Nov. 3.

Kate's Event won the first leg of a pick six that drew a pool of $187,000.
