Santa Anita: It's like Quarter Horse racing

The first two races on Thursday were two-furlong races for 2-year-old males with erratic starts, furious finishes, and one case, a close margin. In other words, the early double resembled Quarter Horse racing.

In the first race, Warren's Gus ($3.60) pulled away from six rivals to win by 1 1-4 lengths in 21.62 seconds. Warren's Gus is trained by Clifford Sise.

In the second race, Leon Ayala ($15.60) prevailed by a neck over Free Time in 21.64 seconds. Leon Ayala is trained by Oscar Garcia. Kept Secret, the 2-1 favorite, was eliminated at the start when Gotcher Number drifted in and bumped Kept Secret.
