Santa Anita: Hemera wins, Vista unlucky

Email

Hemera ran down Calle Vista to win Sunday's seventh race by a half-length, but the runner-up was unlucky. Calle Vista led by a length at the quarter-pole, but brushed the inside rail of the turf course before the eighth pole. The mare maintained a one-length lead at the eighth pole, but the incident had to have affected her concentration. She was caught in the final 50 yards by Hemera, who was timed in 1:35.89 in the optional claimer over a mile.

Andina finished third in the field of five in her first start since a fourth in the Grade 1 American Oaks at Hollywood Park last July.

Hemera is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer. The filly has won 4 of 13 starts, racing in Russia (yes, Russia!), England and California.
