Santa Anita: He can Runflatout

Email

Runflatout, a well-regarded first-time starter trained by John Sadler, lived up to all expectations with an exciting maiden race win against 3-year-olds in Saturday's second race.

Ridden by Garrett Gomez, Runflatout ($6.40) stalked pacesetter Tokubetsu through early fractions of 22.19 and 44.53 seconds, challenged for the lead on the turn, took the lead in early stretch and pulled clear to win by 2 1-2 lengths, finishing six furlongs in a quick 1:07.70. The track has played exceptionally fast since the meeting began on Dec. 26, but the time still merits respect.

Tokubetsu held second, outfinishing Midnight Interlude in the field of six.

Runflatout is owned by West Point Thoroughbreds and is by Flatter.
