Santa Anita: Garcia ends drought

Email

Jockey Martin Garcia, who returned to riding in late January after a 11-week break caused by visa problems, won his first race of the year in Saturday's seventh race abaord Samba School ($9).

Samba School ($9.20) won the $32,000 claimer on the hillside turf course by 1 3-4 lengths over 10-1 Queen Mariles. Samba School, a 5-year-old mare, was claimed by Jerry Hollendorfer.

Garcia rode through the first weekend of November, but was forced to return to his native Mexico while visa issues were resolved. Samba School, trained by Mike Mitchell, was the 18th mount of his comeback.
