Santa Anita: First win for stallion

Son de America gave the 8-year-old stallion Discreet Cat his first winner with his first starter in Thursday's first race at Santa Anita.

Son de America ($10.40) won a two-furlong maiden race for $100,000 claimers by a head over Linda T Rules, a 24-1 shot. Real Dream was third, with Miss Fitzy, the 9-5 favorite, fourth in the field of eight. The race was reduced by one starter when Nolarunninfor Jayci unseated jockey Cruz Mendez several minutes before the start and ran down the stretch.

Son de America ran two furlongs in 21.47 seconds under jockey Alex Jimenez. The filly was purchased for $11,000 at the 2010 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Discreet Cat, who stands at Darley Stud at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky, won 6 of 9 starts. In 2006, he won three stakes including the UAE Derby in Dubai and the Cigar Mile at Aqueduct.
