Santa Anita: El Martillo gets trip

El Martillo ($8) had an ideal trip under jockey Martin Garcia to win Friday's seventh race, an optional claimer over a mile.

Sent off as the second choice in the betting, El Martillo outfinished 7-5 favorite Uh Oh Bango by 1 1-4 lengths. Lucky Primo, a 17-1 outsider, set the pace to the eighth pole before fading to third.

Friday's seventh race was El Martillo's first win since a first-condition allowance race at Hollywood Park last May. Trained by Bob Baffert, the 6-year-old horse won a $50,000 claimer at Santa Anita last April. He has won 4 of 23 starts in his career.

There is only one horse that would produce a two-day carryover for Saturday. If 35-1 longshot Cheeky Changa wins the eighth race, the carryover would be approximately $300,255.
