Santa Anita: El Martillo fights back

Email

El Martillo won for the second time in his career in Sunday's first race, leading early and thwarting a challenge from Knockout Artist in the stretch to win a $50,000 claimer over a mile on turf. Trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Joel Rosario, El Martillo ($5.40) was timed in 1:35.62.

El Martillo ended an eight-race losing streak dating back to a maiden race at Hollywood Park in May 2008.

No Dream, who was rank on the rail behind the leaders for the first half-mile, finished fourth, but was vanned off. He was reported to have bled, according to track stewards.
