Santa Anita: Cozy win for 'Settler'

First Settler, ignored in the betting at 16-1, rallied wide through the stretch to pull an upset under jockey Joe Talamo in Friday's second race.

First Settler ($34.40) ran 1 1-8 miles on turf in 1:48.39, outfinishing 8-5 Blue Maiden and 6-5 Smart Striking in the allowance race for fillies and mares. Trained by Neil Drysdale, First Settler won by a half-length, her first start since a win in a first condition allowance race here on Feb. 3. She has won 3 of 8 starts for owner Chuck Winner.

First Settler was 6-1 on the morning-lne and was sent off as the longest shot in the field.
