Santa Anita: Compari continues to impress

Email

Compari stretched his winning streak to 6 with a frontrunning win in the Grade 2 Arcadia Handicap in Saturday's fourth race, but third-place finisher Battle of Hastings can not be too harshly criticized. Beaten three-quarters of a length, Battle of Hastings raced on the rail for the final three furlongs and did not have a completely clear path until the final sixteenth.

Compari finished a half-length in front of Fluke, the winner of the Grade 1 Citation Handicap last fall. Fluke seemed to have every chance to catch Compari, who seems to have improved through the season. The Arcadia was his first start in a graded stakes, and his third consecutive stakes win at this meeting. He lost his career debut when thirrd in February 2009 but has not lost since.

Trainer Marty Jones mentioned the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile on May 31 as a possible goal for later this spring.
