Santa Anita: Carryover looms

The absence of winning favorites in the first five legs of Saturday's pick six, including consecutive upset wins by Worth Repeating ($18.20) in the Tokyo City Cup and Wake Me Now ($19.20) in the eighth race, strongly suggests that a carryover is possible for Sunday's nine-race program.

Worth Repeating held off a late threat from 9-5 Honour the Deputy to win the Grade 3 Tokyo City Cup. He was ridden by Martin Pedroza, who was unseated, and uninjured, an hour earlier when Brenthurst, broke down in the fifth race.

Wake Me Now, ridden by David Flores, held off a stretch-long threat from 2-1 Samba School to win the one-mile turf race by a three-quarters of a length, her first win since last March.

Van Brit, the 9-5 favorite in the eighth race, was eased in the stretch and was vanned off. She was the first losing mount of the day for jockey Patrick Valenzuela, who won with his first four rides.
