Santa Anita: Boehle, Blanc win

Email

Boehle, making his first start for Marty Jones and first start since April, won an allowance race on the hillside turf course in Thursday's seventh race, outfinishing Miss Georgie Girl by three-quarrers of a length.

It took longer than expected for Boehle to complete the about 6 1-2 furlongs on the hillside turf course. Ridden by Brice Blanc, Boehle ($12.40) was timed in 1:15.30, the slowest clocking on the hillside turf course at the meeting. Tiz a Bud Girl, the even-money favorite, was not a factor in the stretch and finished last.

Boehle, 5, has won 3 of 13 starts. The winner of a maiden claimer in December 2008, Boehle won for the first time since a starter allowance here in January 2010.

Going into the final race, there was only one of the female statebred turf sprinters uncovered in the pick six, the 13-1 shot Tiz Zoe - another Jones-Blanc matchup.

Jones also has the strong favorite, the 3-2 shot Bila Shaka, who could give jockey Patrick Valenzuela his third win of the day.
