Santa Anita: Bejarano triples

Jockey Rafael Bejarano won his third race on Thursday when Cayambe ($18.20) rallied wide to catch Amazombie in the final strides of an allowance race for statebreds over 6 1-2 furlongs in the fifth race, winning by a head.

Cayambe, who is trained by Victor Garcia, was timed in 1:14.64, winning for the second time in his last three starts. He won the Ralph Hinds Pomona Handicap at 25-1 at Fairplex Park in September but was only fourth in the California Cup Classic at Hollywood Park on Oct. 30.

Amazombie ran too good to lose. He looked to be a winner with a furlong remaining, but was caught by a horse who obviously thrived at the extended sprint distance. The disappointment in the field was Dancing in Silks, the winner of the 2009 Breeders' Cup Sprint, who finished last in a field of six. He was winless in five starts in 2010.

Bejarano won the early double on Thursday with the favorites Star Presence and Hey Elvis. He is the leading rider at this meeting.
