Santa Anita: Becerra claims winner

Toro Trippi ($4.40) had little trouble winning Sunday's fifth race, leading throughout a $10,000 claimer over 5 1-2 furlongs. The colt's prospects before the race caught the attention of owner-trainer Rafael Becerra, who claimed the winner.

Ridden by Martin Pedroza for trainer Dan Hendricks, Toro Trippi set fractions of 21.45 and 43.80 seconds, before finishing in 1:02.20. Toro Trippi finished 8 1-2 lengths clear of Thrice the Vice.

The race was marred by sesamoid injuries suffered by 9-1 Milty Way, who was pulled up between the eighth pole and the sixteenth pole. Trained by Doug O'Neill, Milty Way was vanned off.
