Santa Anita: Baffert doubles


Trainer Bob Baffert, currently flying to Dubai for next Saturday's Dubai World Cup races, has won twice in absentia on Sunday's program at Santa Anita.

Baffert won the third race with the 3-year-old maiden Midnight Interlude, who drew off through the stretch to win a one-mile race by 8 1-2 lengths under jockey Joel Rosario. Midhight Interlude ($3.20) had been third and second in his first two starts.

Two races later, the Baffert-trained Irrefutable ($6) won an allowance race over 6 1-2 furlongs by 1 1-4 lengths over 27-1 Sanger Silver, who challenged for the lead in early stretch but could not get by Irrefutable. Another Baffert-runner, Capital Account, finished third as the even-money favorite. Irrefutable, ridden by Mike Smith, ran 6 1-2 furlongs in 1:14.39 on a wet-fast track. The 5-year-old horse has won half of his six startss, andn two of his last three.

In Dubai, Baffert will start Euroears in the $2 million Golden Shaheen for sprinters. Euroears won the Grade 2 Palos Verdes Stakes at Santa Anita in January.
