Santa Anita: An all-Ascanio exacta

Email

Trianer Humberto Ascanio swept the exacta in Friday's first race with 7-5 favorite Kumiva and the well-bred Causeihertz in a maiden race over 1 1-8 miles on turf.

Kumiva won by three-quarters of a length in 1:49.12, ending a span of six losses. The 5-year-old horse is by Giant's Causeway and was second in a similar race on Jan. 15. Causeihertz is by Giant's Causeway out of the millionaire Megahertz. Friday's race was his third career start, preceded by a sixth in a turf sprint last May at Hollywood Park and a fourth in a turf sprint here last January.

After Friday's race, jockey Rafael Bejarano told Ascanio that he wanted to retain the mount on Causeihertz, Ascanio said.
