Santa Anita: Accelerant denies Harris

Accelerant ($8.80) rallied wide through the stretch to catch Lodi Red for a half-length win in an allowance race for California-breds in Thursday's eighth race.

Lodi Red could have given prominent breeder John Harris his third win of the day. Harris owns Monrovia Stakes winner Unzip Me in partnership and owns Red Defense, who stretched his unbeaten streak to four with a late rally in an allowance race on the hillside turf course.

Accelerant races for a partnership that includes Bud and Judy Johnston and is trained by Don Warren. In Thursday's eighth race, he ran a mile on a fast track in 1:35.26 under jockey Alonso Quinonez. The race was run on a track that has endured steady rain since first post of 12:30 p.m.

Accelerant has won 2 of 5 starts. Sunday's race was his first start on the main track.

Harris has one more chance for a third win. In partnership, he owns Call the River, a 5-2 chance to win a maiden claimer over a mile in the upcoming ninth race.
