Santa Anita: Abrams is red-hot

Email

Trainer Barry Abrams won his fifth race from his last 12 starters in Sunday's fourth race with Jax El ($8). Jax El was listed at 8-1 on the morning-line, and was as low as 5-2 before going off at 3-1. He led throughout a maiden race on the hillside turf course, winning by 3 1-4 lengths over Meltarib. Jax El ran about 6 1-2 furlongs in 1:13.86.

Abrams's recent string of success is all the more impressive considering that he has started more than one horse in some of the races that he's won. For example, Abrams had three starters in Sunday's fourth race, finishing third with Nana Beach, and fourth with Unknown Heat.

Jax El won the first leg of a pick six that began with a carryover of $104,449. Bettors added $650,469 on Sunday.

Abrams has one more starter on Sunday - Flammable Boom, who is 30-1 on the morning-line of the sixth race, a maiden claimer over six furlongs.
