Santa Anita: The 32nd try was the charm

Whizer, winless in 31 starts, found the winner's circle somehow in Thursday's eighth race. Ridden by Modesto Linares for owner-trainer Louis Bradvica, Whizer rallied wide from off the pace to finish xx lengths in front of 26-1 Spinco Bob.

Whizer was fourth against a similar field of maiden claimers in the long forgotten fourth race on March 12. The win was his best finish since a second-place finish in a maiden claimmer at Fairplex Park last September, one of only two runner-up finishes in the 5-year-old gelding's career.

There was one winning ticket in the $1 super high five, which returned $50,272. Whizer ($25.40) was followed by Spinco Bob (26-1), Olympic Magic (2-1), High Way Sixty Six (5-1) and Oh Now (9-5).
