Santa Anita: 1-for-34, now 2-for-35

Lisa Lulu ($11) won for only the second time in his 35-race career in Friday's second race, leading throughout a starter allowance over about 6 1-2 furlongs on the hillside turf course.

A bet on Lisa Lulu was a bet of faith. She was 1-for-28 in 2010, a season in which she was third in nine races. In Friday's race, she won by a half-length over Ruby Lane, who was a half-length in front of 8-5 favorite The Great Atlantic, who closed well.

Lisa Lulu had run primarily in claiming races and the drop to starter allowance was an easier group.

She was trainer Barry Abrams's only starter on Friday. Abrams was perfect with his two starters on Thursday.
