Royal Currier, Csaba, Top Beyers

I'm writing this before the Preakness draw, but I'm a bit interested in CREATIVE CAUSE, the San Felipe winner that was fifth in the Derby.  He wasn't going to win with a perfect trip, but he may have been third with an ideal setup.  Instead, he was bumped at the start and wide going into the final turn.  On his best, he fits well with the top two finishers in the Derby.

More to come, obviously, in the next few days.

MARK VALESKI got back on the beam in the Grade 2 Peter Pan Stakes, a possible prep for the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes, but he wasn't the "fastest" 3-year-old colt that ran last week.

CSABA, sixth behind Union Rags in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream on February 26, exploded to a 97 Beyer top when a gate-to-wire winner against older horses in an off-the-turf 'n3L' allowance at Calder on May 12.  Color me skeptical.  Although Csaba is a versatile sort - he is Grade 3-placed on grass, it must be noted that all three of his lifetime victories came in off-the-turf races at Calder.  We'll see if he can duplicate his gaudy Beyer against tougher foes when faced with a more difficult pace situation.

ROYAL CURRIER has been expertly handled by trainer Patricia Farro.  Claimed for $20,000 from the barn of Wesley Ward on September 6, 2010, Royal Currier has been a crack sprinter at the listed stakes level over the last few seasons.  He put up a 104 Beyer last week when defeating THIS ONES FOR PHIL, TRAVELIN MAN and others in the Diablo Stakes at Belmont.  The sprint division is extremely deep, however, and Royal Currier may be in a bit steep against the cream of the crop.

Dan, anyone,
I've been looking for historic past performances to add to my collection, but beyond a select few, I'm having a hard time finding them. Does anyone know of a good resource (besides asking Dan - there are a number I'm looking for). Going through old blog entries is just tedious...
At the moment, may I request of you the PP's of Kelso & John Henry?

I don't know about any free sites, but the CHAMPIONS book and the AMERICAN RACING MANUAL have past performances for legendary horses.

The past performances of KELSO and JOHN HENRY are available at the bottom of this blog post.

Congrats to Alex for finishing first in last week's HandiGambling exercise.

Penn National Rick's results spreadsheet from last week is available at the bottom of this blog post.

Let's go with Saturday's Preakness Stakes for this week's event.  PIMLICO SPECIAL - PREAKNESS DAILY DOUBLE WAGERING WILL BE ALLOWED.

Remember that you have a mythical $100 with which to wager on the race, and the entrant with the highest money total will receive a "Monthly Enhanced 60-Card Past Performance Plan."
Anyone going over the $100 limit will be disqualified.
Please post your plays and analysis to the blog.

Please separate the play from the analysis and label the play "HG" with the program numbers (instead of the horse's name) for easier scoring.

In the event of a tie, the earliest post gets first preference. One entry per person please.
I reserve the right to approve or deny any entries.
I know that there is a time issue for some of you, but let's remember why we began the HandiGambling races in the first place. The goal was to share ideas on why we like these horses, and why we're betting them the way we are. I'm not asking for a novel, but if you could spare a sentence or two outlining your handicapping angles, and thought processes about wagering, it would be appreciated.

Best of luck to all.

Yuwipi, Wishing you much luck today with your MKB, I'LL HAVE ANOTHER. It really would be exciting to have the possibility of a Triple Crown winner going into the Belmont. Good luck! Annie

Thanks Annie. If he wasn't my MKB I'm sure I'd have missed the ride by settling on another horse. It's been all aces so far. Hoping to clear another hurdle today. I did in the box of Samoas after the Derby in half the time it took following the SA Derby.

Turnbackthealarm, I see it makes you a bit cranky too. LOL! Thanks for the support! I imagine this new format was adopted to attract more people to DRF from the various social networks, but as the old saying goes, "Be careful what you wish for". I, too, have noticed that the various comment sections are beginning to look more and more like those general message boards out there and that's not a good thing. We will just have to do everything we can to keep our Formblog the enjoyable place to come to for lively and informative discussions of our shared interest in horseracing. Long live Formblog! Annie

Well, I think everyone who reads my posts knows who I like in the Preakness :) If not, I'll repeat one more time...I'll Have Another ! I am alive in the HG with a $50 Pimlico Special/Preakness double to IHA. I also am alive with real $, but only $2. I have IHA over and under Bode, CC and WTDW in exactas. I have a win and a wps on IHA. And I have him in the double with the proceeding race with the 3 and 11. Might add a couple of small wagers when I see the odds. Unlike Kentucky Oaks day when I did not hit a thing, I had a good day yesterday and won enough to cover all my bets for today and still have a profit for the 2 days even if IHA finishes up the track which I think is highly unlikely. Good luck to all today ! Dick W
