Road to the Derby, Oaklawn: Bullet for Dublin

Dublin put in his major work for the Grade 1, $1 million Arkansas Derby on Saturday morning, when he breezed a bullet six furlongs in 1:11.60 at Oaklawn. He worked first after the renovation break, in a set of three. Jockey Terry Thompson was aboard Dublin, and will have the mount on the horse in the Arkansas Derby on April 10, said trainer D. Wayne Lukas.

Dublin broke off about three lengths behind his company, drew even with them midway on the turn, overtook his workmates at the quarter pole then finished more than five lengths in front. Oaklawn head clocker Jim Hamilton carried Dublin through splits of 12 seconds for the opening eighth of a mile; 23.40 for the opening quarter; 35.60 for three furlongs; 47.80 for the half-mile; 59.60 for five-eighths, and galloping out seven furlongs in 1:24.80.

Lukas was well-pleased with the drill and how Dublin cooled out back at the barn. He said the horse is scheduled to have one more work for the Arkansas Derby.
