Pick Four Confusion

You would think that the two pick fours on today's nine-race card at Saratoga would be on races 2-5 and 6-9, if only because that's been the menu for the last few hundred nine-race cards at NYRA. But apparently you would be wrong.

According to the track program and my Formulator pp's, today's two pick fours are instead on races 3-6 and 6-9, a confusing and unfaortunate change that makes race 6 both the end of one pick four and the beginning of the other. It seems to stem from a steeplechase being the first race of the day, meaning that there are daily doubles on both races 1 and 2 and 2 and 3. This doesn't explain, however, why the pick fours can't be in their expected spot or why this ill-advised change was made at all.

This change also seems to have affected NYRA's generally excellent Internet wagering site, where (as of 12:42 p.m.) the pulldown menu where you click the race you want to bet jumps directly from race 1 to race 5. So if you bet by mouse, it might be wise to log in a little early and make sure you can get into the page you need to in order to bet on races 2, 3 and 4.

Changing the pick 4 format is HARD TO BELIEVE (I wonder who made that decision?). However, it goes along with long list of NYRA failures. No 10cent supers, no 50cent pick fours etc. Also, why not have a rolling pick 3 (many tracks do it and the pools at NYRA are much larger) so the bettor does not have to figure out which races has pick 3 or not. Keep up the good work!

michael Oh it has merit .Kents been doing this for years . They all seem to do it even JV I notice if he's not going to win he doesn't seem to care or try to finish 2nd or 3rd .The best rider out there hands down is Garrett Gomez . he gives his all at ALL times . Coa too . Since JV got hurt he'just doesn;t have that aggresive streak . kind of like Bailey in his last 2 years .They don't care that we need them to finish 3rd to complete a tri .......

whom can I write to about another one of Kent D's wrap-up rides on Lemon Drop Gal (SAR R7). I'm sick and tired of watching exotic potential payoffs go out the window when he fails to ride out to the line. He was admonished by the CHRB so now he's in NYC. Can you steer me in the right direction to complain and do you think what I'm pointing out has merit?

Steve, As much as I enjoyed the previous years' race-by-race recap in the journal, your new blog format is great! You are giving readers a "feel" for what's happening at our favorite track every day. Thanks, keep it up, and best wishes for many big-price winners over the next 36 days.

I can't believe that NYRA did this.It reminds of when Keeneland used to over lap 2-5,4-7 and 6-10.
