Oaklawn: Reed firster favored

Uncle Brent, a first-time starter trained by Eric Reed, has opened up as the 6-5 favorite for the upcoming seventh race, a maiden special weight at six furlongs. The 3-year-old is a son of Pioneering, and he worked a bulelt three furlongs in 35.20 at Oaklawn in his final prep for his debut. Reed wins at an above average rate with first-time starters, while Uncle Brent's sire gets 13 percent debut winners.

The value right now might be on 4-1 Lemon Ghost, who comes out of a Saratoga maiden special weight race in which he hooked both Astrology, a future Grade 3 winner, and To Honor and Serve, an eventual multiple Grade 2 winner. Lemon Ghost is trained by D. Wayne Lukas, who had a double here Thursday and who now leads the trainer standings at Oaklawn.
