Oaklawn: Possible for Rebel?

Email

The Ole Gen and Supreme Ruler put on a show to the wire in the second race, a first-level allowance route for 3- and 4-year-olds at a mile and a sixteenth. In the end, The Ole Gen edged Supreme Ruler in what was his first start since October. He paid $33.80. Larry Jones trains The Ole Gen, a 3-year-old son of Super Derby winner The Daddy.

Supreme Ruler, meanwhile, was making his first start against winners after a last to first win in a maiden special weight route at Oaklawn on Jan. 15. Jinks Fires trains the Don't Get Mad colt, who was one of two Triple Crown nominees in the field. The other was Commander, who finished third.

The race Sunday could produce starters for the Grade 2, $300,000 Rebel on March 19.
