Oaklawn: Philippe upsets favorite

Philippe ($12.20) pulled a mild upset in the seventh race, an allowance sprint for 3-year-olds, when he defeated a field that included Billy Two Hats, who earned a Beyer Figure of 83 when he won a maiden special weight at Oaklawn on Feb. 19. As for Philippe, he brought some interesting company lines to the table.

In his third career start at Churchill Downs in November, he hooked an eventual top-ranked 3-year-old in Dialed In. And one start before Saturday's race, he was third to the well-regarded Yankee Passion in a first-level allowance at Oaklawn on Jan. 27. Philippe covered six furlongs on Saturday in a quick 1:10.80. Calvin Borel was aboard for trainer Jimmy Baker.
