Oaklawn: Minor throat surgery for Ricky Tick

Email

Ricky Tick, who will run a little later on the card in the featured ninth race, has had minor throat surgery since his last start, according to his trainer, Rick Jackson. Jackson said the horse displaced his palate in his most recent out, when he prompted the pace then faded to seventh in a first-level allowance at Oaklawn on Jan. 22. One start earlier, Ricky Tick closed from last for fifth in a first-level allowance at Fair Grounds on Dec. 31.

Last year, Ricky Tick showed promise when he closed from 10 lengths back for fourth, beaten three lengths by Apart, in the Grade 2, $500,000 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs. Ricky Tick is a son of Macho Uno, and Jackson likes the added distance the horse will pick up Sunday on the move from a mile to a mile and a sixteenth. Eddie Razo has the mount on Ricky Tick, who races for Jac Mac Stable and Cedar Lakes Stable.
