Oaklawn: Loose Horse!

The cry 'loose horse' gets the blood-pumping on the racetrack, and Magical Storm had the grandstand engaged on Sunday when he ran loose in the infield for about five mintues following the start of the ninth race. He hopped the inside rail, and also pulled a few other jumper moves while beautifully clearing some of the greenery surrounding the winner's circle. He was caught by a pair of outriders, and appeared to have avoided serious injuries.

Dale Beckner, who was aboard Magical Storm, stood up shortly after being thrown from the horse, who took to the infield right after the start of the $20,000 maiden claimer for 3, 4 and 5-year-olds bred in Arkansas. The race was run over six furlongs, and Magical Storm kept his antics contained to the area of the infield located past the wire. There were no mishaps as a result of the loose horse.

Oaklawn drew an ontrack crowd of 8,880 on Sunday, while handle on the track's nine-race card from all sources was $2,120,532. It was Day 2 of the meet that will feature the $100,000 Smarty Jones on Monday.
