Oaklawn: Latest 'Coyote' goes in 10th

Red Coyote, who is a half-brother to stakes winners Gold Coyote and Coyote Legend, will make his two-turn debut in the upcoming 10th race at Oaklawn. The entry-level allowance at a mile drew a highly competitive group of horses, including the talented 3-year-old Commander from the barn of trainer Larry Jones.

As for Red Coyote, he made a splash in his last start, when he won a maiden special weight by 14 lengths at Sam Houston on Feb. 19. As for the move to two turns, both of his aforementioned big brothers did win stakes at the trip. Bret Calhoun, who trains Gold Coyote and Coyote Legend, also trains Red Coyote. The horses all race for their breeder, the Alysheba-connected Clarence Scharbauer.

On a few other notes for the 10th race, note the rail horse, Trinity Run, is a half-brother to millionaire Greg's Gold. As for Take Turns, his little brother, Alternation, has been one of the better-regarded 3-year-olds this meet at Oaklawn.
