Oaklawn: Big win for Coronet of a Baron

Email

Coronet of a Baron recaptured his best form in Thursday's featured ninth race at Oaklawn Park, when he dominated a $35,000 optional claiming allowance in his 5-year-old debut. It was his first win since October 2009, in a first-level allowance at Santa Anita.

Coronet of a Baron stalked the pace Thursday, overtook the leaders past the eighth pole, and pulled clear in 1:10.11. The horse, who as a 2-year-old was second in both the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity and $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, was sold privately last spring to the Arkansas-based partnership of Fly Racing. Jon Court rode Coronet of a Baron for trainer Grant Forster. The horse paid $23.20.
