Oak Tree: Tough trip for Zenidekka

Email

Zenidekka lost all chance to win Sunday's ninth race for statebred 2-year-old maiden fillies when she hesitated and hopped at the start.

Judging from the way she ran through the field to finish fourth, beaten 4 3-4 lengths, she could have played a factor in the finish. Trained by Neil Drysdale, Zenidekka was making her second start on Sunday, having finished sixth in her debut at Del Mar on Aug. 28. For Sunday's race, she was fitted with blinkers for the first time.

After the poor start, Zenidekka was 10th after a quarter-mile, eighth after a half-mile and fifth with a furlong remaining. She simply had too much to do after the start to challenge California Nectar ($3.40), who won by 1 1-4 lengths in 1:11.03.
