Email

Joe Talamo won four races, and Soul Candy won the $150,000 Classic on Saturday's 10-race California Cup program.

Talamo won two maiden races and two stakes - the Sprint with Cost of Freedom and the Mile with Bruce's Dream. Both were favored, and were two of three favorites to win on the program. Slammer Time won the Cal Cup Juvenile as a 9-5 favorite in the last race, prevailing by a head over an unlucky Joy Boy, who was part of a speed duel and stayed on to just miss.

Slammer Time was ridden by Rafael Bejarano, who was aboard Soul Candy in the Classic. Soul Candy ($12.40) closed from last in a field of eight to win by 1 1-4 lengths over Unusual Suspect, who encountered traffic entering the stretch. Enriched, the 7-5 favorite, finished third.

The $2 pick six returned $17,992. The winners of the pick six races were Ultra Blend ($6.80), Short Memo ($26.20), Swiss Wild Cat ($10.60), Bruce's Dream ($5.20), Soul Candy ($12.40) and Slammer Time ($5.80).

The Oak Tree at Hollywood Park meeting concludes on Sunday. The Hollywood Park autumn meeting begins after a short break on Thursday evening.
