Oak Tree: Sugar beats the boys

Email

Sugarinthemorning beat statebreds for the second time in her three-race career in an allowance race over 6 1-2 furlongs in Sunday's third race, this time prevailing against a field that included three other fillies and two colts.

Ridden by Martin Garcia, Sugarinthemorning led throughout the race, winning by 3 1-4 lengths Warren's Flyer, finishing in 1:16.40.

Trained by Ron McAnally, Sugarinthemorning won her debut at Del Mar on Aug. 14 and finished sixth in the Grade 1 Darley Debutante over seven furlongs on Sept. 4. McAnally suggested after Sunday's race that Sugarinthemorning would be pointed to the $75,000 California Cup Juvenile Fillies for statebred 2-year-old fillies over 1 1-16 miles on Oct. 30.
