Oak Tree: Pick six starts with upset

Email

Kahlua Mist ($34.40) held off a late threat from 3-1 Waren's Rose to win Saturday's fourth race, the first leg of a pick six that drew a pool of $173,972.

Kahlua Mist stalked pacesetter Warrens' Move maker to early stretch and rallied three-wide inside the eighth pole to take the lead. Kahlua Mist was timed in 1:11.84 for six furlongs. Saturday's race was the first for Kahlua Mist since he stumbled at the start and lost jockey Christian Santiago Reyes at the start of a maiden special weight race here on July 5.

Stormy Linda, the 1-2 favorite, stumbled at the start, failed to recover and finished fifth. She was claimed for $25,000 by trainer Jack Carava.

Kahlua Mist was ridden by Brice Blanc, who has an excellent chance for a double on Saturday. He rides morning-line favorite Make Music for Me in the $150,000 Oak Tree Derby, the eighth race.
