Oak Tree: Hemera finally wins

Hemera, who was second or third in her first four starts in the United States, finally won a first-condition allowance race in Sunday's eighth race, rallying from fifth to win by a neck over Nan.

Hemera ($3.80) ran a mile on turf in 1:35.66 under jockey Rafael Bejarano.

Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Hemera began her career in Russia, where she won two stakes in August and October 2009. The races carried purses of $3,200 and $2,700. She was uncompetitive in two races on the all-weather track at Kempton, outside of London, last spring, before joining Hollendorfer's stable.

Hemera neede an ideal ride from Bejarano to win on Sunday. She was fully extended to catch Nan. A second condition allowance race will be much tougher.
