Oak Tree: Gihua ends bug with win

Apprentice jockey Johnny Gihua rode witha five-pound apprentice claim for the final day on Friday and won with his second-to-last mount, The Bat Signal ($31.40) in the seventh race.

Gihua guided The Bat Signal wide in the stretch and finished 1 1-4 lengths in front of Scofield Barracks. Inverness Cape, the 4-5 favorite, was with the leaders for the first half-mile, and faded badly through the final furlong, and was last in a field of eight.

The Bat Signal was timed in 1:16.11. Gihua, 24, hails from Peru where he was the leading apprentice in 2009.
