Oak Tree: Alcindor by a nose

Email

Alcindor, a $1.15 million yearling purchase in 2008, won his debut in Saturday's third race, edging unlucky pacesetter Chapman's Peak by a nose in a six-furlong maiden race.

Ridden by Martin Garcia, Alcindor ($5.40) rallied from third in a field of five to reach Chapman's Peak with a furlong remaining. They ran as a pair through the final sixteenth with Alcindor getting his nose down on the line. Chapman's Peak was 5 3-4 lengths clear of third-place finisher Cragmont.

Alcindor, by Unbridled's Song, races for the Thoroughbred Legends Racing Stable and is trained by Bob Baffert.
