The amazing saga of RAIL TRIP continued last week at the Big A.  Sent off as the 2-5 favorite in the Sunny and Mild Stakes on November 17, Rail Trip stumbled at the start and unseated his rider, Ramon Dominguez.

The Delta Jackpot, basically a "Win and You're In" for next spring's Kentucky Derby, headlines this weekend's racing action.  DRILL hopes to rebound from a disastrous run in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.  He's the likely favorite based on his Southern California form, but I'll take a stab with BASMATI, a recent maiden winner at Santa Anita.  Basmati rode a slow early pace when going gate-to-wire that day and I'm hoping he can rate and finish with other speeds entered in the Jackpot.

Thursday's HandiGambling 258 exercise is the eighth race at Delta Downs, an entry-level allowance for Louisiana-breds at seven furlongs. Remember that you have a mythical $100 with which to wager on the race, and the entrant with the highest money total will receive a "Monthly Enhanced 60-Card Past Performance Plan." Anyone going over the $100 limit will be disqualified. Please post your plays and analysis to the blog.

*FAST BULLET, a 3-year-old son of Speightstown, made it 2-2 with another quick victory in Southern California.  After winning his debut by 6 1/4 lengths on the dirt at Santa Anita on October 9 (92 Beyer), the Bob Baffert-trained colt shipped to Churchill Downs for a try in the Jimmy V.
