Monmouth: Rain may be Coming

There was some talk in the press box this week about the possibility of some stars showing up for the Haskell. In years past, we've had Joe Pesci, Bill Murray and other big names grace the track on Haskell Day, and there was some conjecture as to who might show up today. Anticipation gave way to excitement just a few minutes into the day, hoqwever, when Jay Privman, television star and DRF writer, was spotted in the press box. The only way to top this would be for Springsteen to sing the national anthem.

It rained hard in a few spots north of the track, and though there are some dark clouds to the west, and we're in the midst of a sprinkling, it has not yet rained appreciably hard here -- yet. It seems like a lock that we'll get some precipitation, but just how much we get will determine how cursed Monmouth Park really is. After all, we haven't had enough rain here all summer to cause a single turf race to be moved to the main track. Let's hope we don't lose any of the grass races today, as track management is likely to be pretty resistant to switching races from a grass course which hasn't gotten much rainfall all summer.
