Monmouth: Race Flow Decides 6th

Not sure if jockey Jose Valdivia Jr. was riding to instructions from trainer Allen Iwinski but why he would take Stormy Mirage off the pace in today's 6th race is a mystery. On paper, it was clear there was no speed in the field, and Stormy Mirage, who broke from post two, was the most likely pacesetter. Yet he was taken back early on, not even prompting default leader Kaufman, and that ruined any chance he had. Heavy favorite Adagio, meanwhile, changed tactics under jockey Eddie Castro and pressed Kaufman from the start, the logical move given how the race shaped up. That proved to be the difference, as Leadwithyourchin ran another big race here and actually made it relatively close despite having to rally into that controlled tempo. Give the stone closers in here another chance when they make their returns.
