Monmouth: Interesting Longshots Coming Up

Off to a late start today due to editorial responsibilities but with one race in the books we are fast and firm, with clear skies and temperatures in the low 90's. The humidity is down, so it's fairly comfortable, although tomorrow is supposed to be absolutely perfect, one of the best days of the summer in terms of weather.

In terms of the racing: this is a fairly tough card, with full fields, though there are only a handful of quality races. One is the 6th, on the turf. It's a deep field, and with a couple of confirmed speeds signed on it figures to go to a closer. Don't overlook Almoradi (#11), who was a solid 2nd in his latest, closing well despite racing well off a controlled pace, set by the winner in a race devoid of speed.

Jackie Oh (#1) is interesting in the 8th. This will be her first start on the grass but she's bred for it, as a granddaughter of Storm Cat, and her maiden win was most impressive, as her 65 winning Beyer was well above par. This is not the greatest of fields, so this may be the right spot for trainer Amy Tarrant and jockey Francisco Maysonett, who teamed to score with 104-1 The Cognac Kid in his turf debut earlier in the meet.
