Monmouth: Everybody's a Handicapper

Overnight rains (which were needed, by the way. My lawn is more yellow than green) hit Jersey  and made the turf course "Good" for today, the first of three days of racing, culminating with Haskell Day on Sunday. Not much Haskell buzz up here, although the press box today welcomes the re-opening of the lunch counter, if only for this weekend.

Kind of a bland card, especially early on. I'll still make a Pick 5 play, keying Witchesofwestfield (#3) in the 6th and Sold the Farm (#8) in the 8th, but I'll also certainly use Dances With Ashely (#1) in the 10th. Sure, she's my top pick, but how can she lose after the conductor on the 10:38 a.m. train out of New York gave her out on the intercom as we pulled into Monmouth Park? Believe it or not, a couple of the stragglers on my car scurried for pens to write this information down. I, for one, will only accept advice from the conductors when it comes to the commodities and currency markets. One guy really knows his stuff when it comes to soybean oil futures...
